“Good Morning,” Davison Designs, So Glad to See You “Today!”

Davison Inventions Blog 26 Jan 2012, 7:47 pm CET

Recently, we announced that our client, Jean’s, Meatball Baker, which offers a healthy alternative to greasy meatballs, was featured in the most recent Avon catalog and at shopavon.com.

Davison Product in Avon MagazineIt turns out, that great news was just the first bit of excitement the Meatball Baker has been cooking up lately!  Nearly as soon as we heard that our “Meatball Queen” Became an “Avon Lady,” the Meatball Baker was back at it!

This time, it was Good Morning America’s (GMA) ”Secret Steals and Deals” website that featured the Meatball Baker – and for 60% off at that!  For 48 hours, interested cooks everywhere could purchase the Meatball Baker for $8.80!

GMA also published an accompanying article called “Mom Inventions: Exclusive Deals and Steals, Just for ‘GMA’ Viewers,” which commended our client, Jean, on her invention.

Davison Client Product

“Mom/grandmother inventor “Jean the Meatball Queen” partnered with Davison, a new-products development company, to develop this rack that holds small, medium and extra-large meatballs letting all the fat drain into the bottom of baker,” the article stated.

Davison InventorWe couldn’t wait to be the first to tell Jean the great news either!

“To be truthful, I am not much of a TV watcher, so I really never heard of it until you just told me about it.  I do like the publicity though,” said Jean.   Jean expressed how happy she was about all the exposure her Meatball Baker has received and said she, sometimes, is still in disbelief!

“At times, it is still hard to believe that my idea has truly came to life.  I am seeing my idea used in other ways too, meaning I have seen my pan duplicated with just a change in the handle at a Farm & Fleet store in Eau Claire, Wi.  I have also seen the meatloaf pan where the grease drains through a grid for a healthier meal.  So, I look at it as my idea must have been a good one, if it is being used in all sorts of ways,” said Jean.

As for the possibility of her invention being in the news even more?

“The press can talk about my pan all they want,” said Jean.

Speaking of great press for Davison-designed products, we also found the Silicone Dessert Bar Pan on a Bed Bath & Beyond advertisement on the NBC Today Show website!

What will be the next Davison-designed product we find out there?  We can’t wait to see!

Stem Cell Technology Used To Create Neuronal Model For Alzheimer's Disease

Inventor Spot - Inventions, Innovations, and Interesting Ideas for the Inventor in All of Us 26 Jan 2012, 10:00 am CET

Researchers at UC San Diego have developed a "true human neuronal model" that replicates the early stages of Alzheimer's disease in actual human brain cells.  They have accomplished this model by using adult stem cells to more accurately demonstrate the pathology of the disease.

Blood Sugar Check with Saliva

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 26 Jan 2012, 12:57 am CET

Researchers have developed a blood sugar test able to measure the tiny amounts of glucose in saliva, enabling diabetics to skip the needle. The test sensor, created by researchers at Brown University, is based on a surface cut with a pattern of nano-meter wide grooves and slits. The slit captures protons while the grooves scatter them, causing the photons to interact with free electrons to form a surface plasmon. The plasmon wave can detect trace differences in lightwaves, by which the researchers can determine the amount of glucose in the sample.

Mobile Mediation Device

The emWave2 pocket portable monitor guides the user to inner calm by monitoring stress and provided visual cues for peace. Developed by HeartMath, the emWave2 gather real time data on the breath and heart rate of the user through either an ear clip or thumb button. Once it determines the level of stress, the device uses colored LED lights to provide a guide to synchronize the heart rate with the breath, which relieves tension. emWave2 from HeartMath on Vimeo.

Super Grip Compound

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 26 Jan 2012, 12:29 am CET

A new compound can create a surface material that provides significantly better grip in both wet and dry environments. Developed by Kraiburg TPE of Germany, the Wet Grip technology is permanent and completely incorporated into the material, so it will not shift over time. The strong grip of the material will be useful in the development of tools that require a firm hand and steady control.

E. Chromi Color Codes Your Poop

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 26 Jan 2012, 12:17 am CET

The E. chromi system uses E.Coli to color-code the user's poop, making self-diagnosis quick and easy. To diagnose through E. chromi, the patient must drink a substance laced with E.coli that have been engineered to turn different colors in the presence of different enzymes and other disease indicators. The E.coli's color would be obvious in the feces, indicating the disease. E. chromi could also have applications in creating non-toxic dyes for food and fabrics. Engine Powered by Cold Air

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 26 Jan 2012, 12:05 am CET

The Dearman engine runs on liquid air and releases no emissions, potentially adding another alternative energy option to the list. The Dearman operates by the injection of cryogenic air into the natural heat inside the engine. This creates a high pressure gas, which drives the engine and is emitted as cold air. The engine can be built more cheaply than fuel cells or batteries, and liquid air is a very safe fuel source. The Dearman engine technology was recently heralded as valid by Ricardo, an esteemed British engineering firm.

Building Better Muscle Models

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 11:46 pm CET

A new 3D muscle imaging system is able to create maps of muscle tissue in 90 seconds, making it possible to capture a muscle contraction. Previous imaging methods took 15 minutes to complete a scan, which is too long for subjects to be able to hold a contraction. The new system, designed by James Wakeling of Simon Fraser University, uses a combination of ultrasound, 3D motion capture technology, and a proprietary data processing software. The new system could be used to create better muscle models, particularly for planning tendon transfers in children in cerebral palsy. Image: Julien Tromeur

Creative Heart Ideas for Any Day

Inventor Spot - Inventions, Innovations, and Interesting Ideas for the Inventor in All of Us 25 Jan 2012, 8:58 pm CET

Valentine’s Day gets a lot of flak for being a made-up holiday that puts pressure on people to express their undying love for one another.  But I tell you as I sip green tea from my Tall Multi Heart Latte Mug from Target that sometimes it’s nice to have a heart in your view no matter what day it is, so here’s some ways to be innovative and add a little love into your life.

Custom Fitted Bone Screws

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 7:35 pm CET

Previous bone screws were made in mass quantities in a range of different sizes. Although the size variations were large, it did not always properly fit the size requirements of the customer. Using CNC precision machining technologies, bone screws can be designed and manufactured to fit the exact specifications and needs of an individual customer. This reduces damage during surgery and ensures faster recovery times.

Gentle Light Alarm

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 2:10 am CET

The Phillips Wake-Up Light alarm clock makes getting out of bed just a little bit easier, gently increasing the light for a more natural alarm. The light is meant to simulate the natural sunrise, slowly increasing its glow over a period of 30 minutes, and can be programmed to include chirping birds or music. It will also dim slowly, easing the user into natural sleep.

Bubble Hull Reduces Friction

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 12:26 am CET

Mitsubishi has released their new low friction hull concept, which they claim will reduce CO2 emmisions by 35 percent. The design uses the Mitsubishi Air Lubrication Systems (MALS) to blow small bubbles around the hull of the ship. The bubbles create an air pocket and reduce the amount of the hull actually touching the water, significantly reducing friction. This MALS system will be used on a high-performance hull, already designed for efficiency and CO2 reduction. The first boats to be using the system are planned for completion by 2014, and are being build by Oshima Shipbuilding.

Magnetic Soap Could Clean Oil Spills

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 12:17 am CET

Researchers have developed a 'magnetic soap' that could make cleaning up oil spills more eco-friendly and efficient. Scientists from the University of Bristol created the soap by dissolving the ions of different materials, such as the chloride and bromide ions found in mouthwash. When the soap was placed in a container holding a thick layer of organic solution, introducing a magnet over the surface of the soap caused the soap to rise through the organic solution to reach the magnet, breaking the surface tension. Different soaps could eventually be fine tuned to tend to an array of cleaning needs.

Searaser Harnesses Wave Energy with Pump Inspired Design

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 25 Jan 2012, 12:08 am CET

The Searaser uses a simple design based on a bicycle pump to harness wave energy and generate electricity. The Searaser consists of two buoys with a piston between them. The larger buoy on top floats on the surface of the water, while the smaller buoy is weighted to the ocean floor. The movements of the ocean waves cause the piston to pump seawater to a reservoir on shore, where it is then released downhill to a turbine with produces electricity.

“Meatball Queen” Becomes “Avon Lady!”

Davison Inventions Blog 24 Jan 2012, 2:51 pm CET

Davison Products

We knew when our client, “Jean, Jean – the Meatball Queen,” came to us with her idea for a way to make healthier, less-greasy meatballs, she was definitely on to something.

Now, we’re finding out just how “on” she was… Jean is AVON!  Well, at least her Meatball Baker is!

Davison Meatball BakerThat’s right, in the most recent Avon catalog and on Avon online, the Davison-designed Meatball Baker is selling for $24.99!

According to “the company for women,” the Meatball Baker is “a healthier alternative to making yummy meatballs!”

While we all know the Meatball Baker, which was licensed by Xtraordinary Home Products, is a great tool for both male and female cooks, we couldn’t agree more that it is the perfect way to make delicious meatballs!

You may recall, this is not the first time Jean has “made it big” with the Meatball Baker.  When Inventionland was featured on CBS’ The Early Show in August, Jean was also featured in the interactive segment that showed her and her product in action!

Davison Inventions

Congratulations to Jean and the entire team that has worked so hard on her Meatball Baker idea!  We can’t wait to see where that Davison “D” appears next!

Beeping Bobber

IdeaConnection :: Inventions & Innovations 24 Jan 2012, 5:46 am CET

The Beeping Bobber. Never miss a bite again while enjoying the scenery. No more staring at your fishing bobber waiting for that bite. The Beeping Bobber will alert you audibly when a fish strikes the bait. Day time or night time, and even for the blind. The Beeping Bobber will eliminate the dismal task of staring at your bobber. I built two hand made models to do some testing and to my surprise when a fish bites and activates the beeper, the high pitched beeping actually attracts other fish. It’s a rugged design with no moving parts accept beeper sensitivity adjustment. When the two metal rings are submerged that is what activates the beeper. The 12 volt alkaline batter will last a minimum of five years and can be replaced. I need your help to purchase four injection molds to get the Beeping Bobber into production, and for packaging and distribution. Be exited in knowing you helped launch a product that will make fishing with a bobber much more enjoyable for everyone, even the blind.
